Trip Tips UK 4: Summer tips UK - Dover

Summer is arriving, and I decided to share with you some of the places I have been on England, that are great for a summer day trip, being near to London and with easy access by train.

I've visited three places: Dover, Southend-on-Sea and Colchester. So I will talk about them, however you may consider go to Brigthon which I've hear is amazing, and hopefully going there soon!For more British Beaches follow: 20 best beaches in the UK

The first of the list, and the best one among the three of them is Dover.

On the South East of England, in Kent, you find in Dover the narrowest part of the channel, where people generally take the ferry to cross to Europe (when you travelling by megabus, for example) and in a clear day you are even able to see a piece of France (ok, clear days and England, rare, but I managed, so maybe you will too). Historically Dover had its importance on the Second World War, and the rescue of British and French soldiers through the Channel during the Nazi domination.

It's very easy to get in Dover by train, consider it leaves from Startford (the station of Westfield) and if you book in advance may be cheap too! The ride in the train is quite pretty, going to the litoral!

Dover has four things that are worth doing:

1. Visit the Medival Castle

The Castle itself is not super amazing, however, the view from there, it's so so pretty, and when you buy the tickets to the castle you can visit the caves where they would hide the soldiers on the Second World War, and that was the highlight for me! You will do same trajetory the soldiers did, and even listen the original Churchil's speech declaring war againts German (which made me very emotional!). 2. Go up to the Cliffs

The Cliffs in Dover are stunning and white!! Very different than the famous Irish ones! I loved! Was so pretty, and there are lots of options of trails to go up! I do recommend you eat before do it, downtown on the city, or bring food along for a picnic, stay up there sun tanning and enjoying the wheather (remember this is a summer post, so hopefully it will be good day). 3. Walk Along the beach and habor

A nice walk alongside the beach and habour can be good for the end of the afternoon

4. Watch the sunset at the beach.

The beach in Dover is a stone beach, and because there is a habour the water is not the cleaneast ever, however, it's still a great spot to watch the sun seting!! So I do recommend you finish your day there!

Oi gente, verao esta chegando, e o tempo melhorando! (ate que enfim!)

Eu queria dar umas dicas de onde aproveitar um dia de sol e regioes perto de Londres que eu ja visitei. 

Entenda, nao estamos falando de Brasil, nem Espanha, ou Grecia, entao nao super espere muito das praias britanicas. 

Eu vou falar de tres cidades: Dover, Colchester e Southend-on-sea, elas sao todas perto de Londres e de facil acesso de trem, e sao proximas suficientes para fazer um bate volta.

Se voce tiver mais tempo e quer aproveitar praia no reino unido, recomendo: Brighton, Plymouth, Southampton. Eu ainda nao fui em nenhuma delas, mas enfim, dizem que sao legais! Para mais praias britânicas veja o link:  20 melhores praias britânicas 

O trem pra Dover sai de Stratford, em Londres ( a estacao fica praticamente dentro do shopping Westfield - aquele enorme, de Londres).

E eu separei 4 coisas para fazer na cidade, durante 1 dia:

1. Comece pelo Castelo Medieval.

O castelo em si nao e muito legal, mas e patrimonio britanico. Alem disso, o que eu considerei o maximo, foram as cavernas onde eles escondiam os soldados resgatados na Segunda Guerra Mundial, entao se voce se interessa pelo assunto vale a pena. Se nao, voce pode so ir na area gratuita pela vista la de cima!

2. Facas as trilhas ate as Falesias

Dover tem lindas falesias brancas, otimo lugar para picnic e aproveitar o sol, em dias claros voce pode ate ver a Franca, considerando que ali e a parte mais estreita, ou seja a parte mais proximo a Europa!

3. Caminhe no calcadao

O calcadao da praia e bem legal, e vale a caminhada por ali, para tomar um sorvete ou comer algo

4. Termine o dia vendo o por do sol na Praia

A praia e de pedras, mas o por do sol e bem bonito e vale a pena sentar por ali para aprecia-lo.

Trip Tips Brasil 3: Existe Amor em SP - Festa Juninas

Oi Gente, 

Junho, esse mes friozinho em SP, que cheira a quentão, milho, morango no espeto, pamonha e que soa como muita musica caipira! Ai que delicia!! Eu gosto tanto de Festa Juninas!!!! 

Como vocês sabem, eu nao estou em SP, entao, fui atrás dos locais das Festas Juninas mais importantes da cidade, para passar aqui pra vocês. Infelizmente nao tenho fotos minhas, nem nada, quem dera eu, poder comer morango no espeto, ouvir sertanejo e tomar um vinho quente! Hi guys, June is the month when Festa Juninas happens in the whole Brasil, are folcloric parties that happen every June. In SP is typicall to have "quermesses" which are basically typical  food (corn, pamonha, hot wine, fruits) and play tends for kids in the courtyard of churches or on clubs and sports associations. Also one other thing that is very typical, is the "quadrilha", which is a pair dance (that everyone in Brasil knows how to do it), see the video, to understand:

Those are kids from a brazilian public school. I've randomly pic this videos, cos generally the way kids do, are the most typical way!However, if you are a grown up and fancy some dacing you are more than welcome to do so on the SP quermesse or Festa Juninas (see links above for information - in portuguese).

Trip Tips Europe 4: Bergen, Norway

Hey guys, how are you doing?

So today as I promise there on the instagram account sights_and_thoughts (FOLLOW ME! =D) I am going to talk about Bergen, the second biggest city in Norway! It's the last post about Norway, at least for while, if you missed the other ones, you can check again here:Trip Tips Europe.

So as I told you guys before, I came to Bergen, by taking the Norway in a Nutshel tour, from Oslo. As I am leaving in England, I could fly from Bergen airport to London Gatwick, so it was easier for me do that then come back all the way to Oslo.

In Bergen, I've stay in a Hostel called The Piano Hostel, the location was great, near the train station and near downtown. It was a very simple Hostel, not very cheap thought (~£30.00 night) for a mixed room. The hostel was self-served basis, so no reception or anything. The bed sheets were very clean, and so was the bathroom and kitchen area. They even offered tea and hair dryer (girls know how this is good! ahha), but again, do not expect any luxury or a big thing! Simple, clean, good location...nothing more... =D

I had a day in Bergen, and it was enough to see pretty much the whole city, I didn't get in any museums or stuff like that. I walked around the city in the morning, because was raining, and I want to wait for the weather get better so I could go on the funicular. The city has a very "cute" architecture, the streets are super clean, in spite being a harbour city and there are lots of wood and coloured houses

When the rain stopped, I took the Floybanen, which is a Funicular that takes you to the top of hill from where you can see the whole Bergen Fjord. There you may find a mirante, a souvenir shop and a restaurant. Also in summer there are lots of activities on the surrounding and also you may be encourage to do some hiking in one of the trails ( I took it down to the city, was really nice and took me 45 min). The price for students is something around £8.00.

After it all I finally went to have lunch, and I've chosen to eat in one of the food "tents" in front of the Marine and I chose to eat the famous Norwegian Bacalao, which was amazing! Other option for eating is inside of the fish market, it's all very clean and very fresh, and the price is also good (Norwegian standards) and does not smell like fish at all!!

After Lunch I spend couple of hour walking around the Brygge area, which is an Unesco Heritage. The little houses on the marine, are very uneven and coloured, actually as the whole neighbourhood. Also don't forget to look around the hiden streets, they have lots of little pretty things to be seen, and even look to the floor, cos everything there is pretty!! And if you are luck, like I was, you may see the Halo effect in a sunny day!! By the way, near the fish market, in front of the bus stop to take the bus to the airport, there is a place where you can buy amazing orange ice cream! Do it! haha

Oi Gente, ultimo post sobre a Noruega, e hoje vou falar de Bergen!

Vocês já viram as fotinhos, e espero que tenham gostado super!! Vou contar um pouco de como foi passar o dia nessa cidade linda, que é a segunda maior cidade norueguesa.

Eu fiquei num hostel "self-service" - sem recepção, chamado Paino Hostel, peguei pelo booking. A localização era boa, próximo à estação e ao centro! Contudo, o Hostel era super simples, dois quartos mistos, dois banheiros (bem limpinhos) e uma cozinha. Roupa de cama era ofericida, e estava tbm bem limpinha. Fora isso nada de muito luxo!

Comecei o dia bem cedo, pois eu só tinha um dia lá, e escolhi voltar para Inglaterra direto de Bergen (voo para o Londres Gatwick) ao invés de retornar à Oslo. No começo do dia, estava chovendo, e daí perambulei um pouco pela cidade, tomei meu café da manhã, e esperei a chuva passar. 

Logo em seguida fui no Funicular Floybanen (link acima), o que valeu muito a pena, é uma atração imperdível e a  vista lá de cima é bem bonita. La na montanhinha, você ainda encontra um mirante, um parquinho para crianças, um restaurante e várias trilhas. No verão tbm tem canoagem numa lagoa próxima!

Resolvi descer a pé, por uma das trilhas, demorei 45 minutos, andando devagar, foi sofrido, pq tava cm mochila e tals, mas fora isso é de boa!

Para almoçar, escolhi comer nas barraquinhas de comida em frente à Marina, no Bairro Brygge, e  comi o famoso bacalhau norueguês, preperado por italiano, que falava português! ahha Achei bem gostoso, bem fresquinho, feito na hora, e quanto ao preço, era nível noruega, em torno de 20 libras. 

Outra opção para comer é dentro do Mercado do Peixe, lá é super limpo, quase imaculado, nem cheira a peixe, o que é impressionante, ahha, e tudo é bem fresquinho tbm, o preço é praticamente o mesmo das barraquinhas.

Após o almoço, tinha algumas horas antes de ir para o aeroporto e fiquei andando por Brygge, o bairro que tem o patrimônio da Unesco (as casinhas coloridas e tortinhas nas fotos acima) É um bairro super colorido, com casinhas de madeira, e até as tampas dos bueiros são bonitas! haha

Também foi bom, pq pude ver o efeito Halo, que é quando um arco-íris completo se forma ao redor do sol (vejam foto acima).

Peguei o ônibus para o aeroporto lá pelas 4 da tarde e cheguei em menos de 30 minutos. Os ônibus passam no centro a cada 15 minutos, e rapidinho você chega no aeroporto, bem prático!
