Trip Tips Europe 4: Bergen, Norway

Hey guys, how are you doing?

So today as I promise there on the instagram account sights_and_thoughts (FOLLOW ME! =D) I am going to talk about Bergen, the second biggest city in Norway! It's the last post about Norway, at least for while, if you missed the other ones, you can check again here:Trip Tips Europe.

So as I told you guys before, I came to Bergen, by taking the Norway in a Nutshel tour, from Oslo. As I am leaving in England, I could fly from Bergen airport to London Gatwick, so it was easier for me do that then come back all the way to Oslo.

In Bergen, I've stay in a Hostel called The Piano Hostel, the location was great, near the train station and near downtown. It was a very simple Hostel, not very cheap thought (~£30.00 night) for a mixed room. The hostel was self-served basis, so no reception or anything. The bed sheets were very clean, and so was the bathroom and kitchen area. They even offered tea and hair dryer (girls know how this is good! ahha), but again, do not expect any luxury or a big thing! Simple, clean, good location...nothing more... =D

I had a day in Bergen, and it was enough to see pretty much the whole city, I didn't get in any museums or stuff like that. I walked around the city in the morning, because was raining, and I want to wait for the weather get better so I could go on the funicular. The city has a very "cute" architecture, the streets are super clean, in spite being a harbour city and there are lots of wood and coloured houses

When the rain stopped, I took the Floybanen, which is a Funicular that takes you to the top of hill from where you can see the whole Bergen Fjord. There you may find a mirante, a souvenir shop and a restaurant. Also in summer there are lots of activities on the surrounding and also you may be encourage to do some hiking in one of the trails ( I took it down to the city, was really nice and took me 45 min). The price for students is something around £8.00.

After it all I finally went to have lunch, and I've chosen to eat in one of the food "tents" in front of the Marine and I chose to eat the famous Norwegian Bacalao, which was amazing! Other option for eating is inside of the fish market, it's all very clean and very fresh, and the price is also good (Norwegian standards) and does not smell like fish at all!!

After Lunch I spend couple of hour walking around the Brygge area, which is an Unesco Heritage. The little houses on the marine, are very uneven and coloured, actually as the whole neighbourhood. Also don't forget to look around the hiden streets, they have lots of little pretty things to be seen, and even look to the floor, cos everything there is pretty!! And if you are luck, like I was, you may see the Halo effect in a sunny day!! By the way, near the fish market, in front of the bus stop to take the bus to the airport, there is a place where you can buy amazing orange ice cream! Do it! haha

Oi Gente, ultimo post sobre a Noruega, e hoje vou falar de Bergen!

Vocês já viram as fotinhos, e espero que tenham gostado super!! Vou contar um pouco de como foi passar o dia nessa cidade linda, que é a segunda maior cidade norueguesa.

Eu fiquei num hostel "self-service" - sem recepção, chamado Paino Hostel, peguei pelo booking. A localização era boa, próximo à estação e ao centro! Contudo, o Hostel era super simples, dois quartos mistos, dois banheiros (bem limpinhos) e uma cozinha. Roupa de cama era ofericida, e estava tbm bem limpinha. Fora isso nada de muito luxo!

Comecei o dia bem cedo, pois eu só tinha um dia lá, e escolhi voltar para Inglaterra direto de Bergen (voo para o Londres Gatwick) ao invés de retornar à Oslo. No começo do dia, estava chovendo, e daí perambulei um pouco pela cidade, tomei meu café da manhã, e esperei a chuva passar. 

Logo em seguida fui no Funicular Floybanen (link acima), o que valeu muito a pena, é uma atração imperdível e a  vista lá de cima é bem bonita. La na montanhinha, você ainda encontra um mirante, um parquinho para crianças, um restaurante e várias trilhas. No verão tbm tem canoagem numa lagoa próxima!

Resolvi descer a pé, por uma das trilhas, demorei 45 minutos, andando devagar, foi sofrido, pq tava cm mochila e tals, mas fora isso é de boa!

Para almoçar, escolhi comer nas barraquinhas de comida em frente à Marina, no Bairro Brygge, e  comi o famoso bacalhau norueguês, preperado por italiano, que falava português! ahha Achei bem gostoso, bem fresquinho, feito na hora, e quanto ao preço, era nível noruega, em torno de 20 libras. 

Outra opção para comer é dentro do Mercado do Peixe, lá é super limpo, quase imaculado, nem cheira a peixe, o que é impressionante, ahha, e tudo é bem fresquinho tbm, o preço é praticamente o mesmo das barraquinhas.

Após o almoço, tinha algumas horas antes de ir para o aeroporto e fiquei andando por Brygge, o bairro que tem o patrimônio da Unesco (as casinhas coloridas e tortinhas nas fotos acima) É um bairro super colorido, com casinhas de madeira, e até as tampas dos bueiros são bonitas! haha

Também foi bom, pq pude ver o efeito Halo, que é quando um arco-íris completo se forma ao redor do sol (vejam foto acima).

Peguei o ônibus para o aeroporto lá pelas 4 da tarde e cheguei em menos de 30 minutos. Os ônibus passam no centro a cada 15 minutos, e rapidinho você chega no aeroporto, bem prático!

Trip Tips Europe 3: Norway in a Nutshell

To make it easy I will wrtie the whole post in English, and then below all in portuguese.

Pra fica mais facil, vou escrever primeiro em ingles, e depois em portugues! ;]

So, Norway in a Nutshell, it's a series of tour you may buy when in Norway, please check the http://www.norwaynutshell.com/ for information in different destinations.

I took the tour trip from Oslo  (check for more info about Oslo) to Bergen. And I have stopped in Myrdal, Flam, Gudvangen, Voss e finalmente Flam. I travelled for about 14 hours, I have left Oslo 8:20 in the morning and arrived in Bergen almost 22:00.

I have choosen to do a day trip, because I was going to be in Norway for just three days, but you can choose the same trajetory and do it in two days or more, and prices may vary. I have paid 1630 norwergian crowns, which is about £160. It's not the cheapest of the tours, but it really worthed every single penny and it was the cheapest, easiest and fastest way to do this trajetory. 

I do not recommend at all stay in one of the cities, they are very small and the time during the stops is more than enought to see everthing! Voss is the biggest city despite Oslo or Bergen, but still, I don't think it worth stay there, for two reasons: you have almost 2h of waiting in Voss, so you can look around, and 2,you are just 2h from Bergen, which is much better! =D

I will post below some pictures from the trajectory. I don't recommend either to go and come back to Oslo, unless you have no alternative. If you can take your flights from Bergen (the airport is half an hour from the city, and there is a very chip bus every 15 minutes). 

Two tips for your trip. 

1. Bring food with you: you have a catering service on the train to Myrdal, than again in Flam and on the boat during the Fjord trip, but there aren't much options, and the prices aren't the best as well. 

2. Bring warm clothers: I went on spring, and I was luck enough to have a great day, but even with my jacket, I was very cold on the Fjord trip, so bring warm clothes!

Entao gente, eu escolhi o passeio Norway in Nutshell indo de Oslo para Bergen (voltei para a Inglaterra desde Bergen). Voce tem a opcao de fazer o passeio e voltar pra Oslo, ou outros roteiros (ver o site). 

Eu escolhi fazer no modo "day trip", ou seja, tudo num dia so. Fiz isso porque eu so tinha tres dias na Noruega e porque eu li em outros blogs que nao valia a pena ficar nas cidades de parada ( o que eu concordo).  Eu fiz o trajeto Oslo --> Myrdal --> Flam --> Fjord --> Gudvangen --> Voss --> Bergen (ufaa!) Sim foram quase 14h viajando, mas valeu cada minuto! O valor e um pouco caro, mas se vc tem poucos dias e quer ver neve, verde, montanha, fjord, bergen e oslo, eu acredito piamente que e a melhor opcao. O passeio me saiu 1630 coroas norueguesas, o que da em torno de uns R$800.00, eu ganho em libras entao nao foi assim tao ruim pra mim, mas se voce vem do Brasil, prepare o bolso!

Nao voltei pra Oslo, porque eu tinha a opcao de voar pra Inglaterra direto de Bergen, se voce tem essa opcao eu recomendo, nao creio que valha a pena fazer o caminho de volta, a nao ser que seja estritamente necessario. Algumas pessoas pernoitam em Flam ou Voss, eu sinceramente nao acho que vale a pena nao. Vc tem mais ou menos 1h em Flam e 2h em Voss.. se quiser da pra ver algumas coisas, e na verdade nao tem la muitas coisas pra ver, enfim depende muito de quanto tempo vc tem, e que tipo de atividades quer fazer. Sei que Flam e Voss tem algumas atividades no verao, entao, se for teu perfil, de uma olhada nas paginas oficiais de turismo que la vc tera mais info (em ingles, a maioria).

Duas dicas pra voce:

1. Traga comida! Dentro do trem ate Myrdal e do barco no fjord, tem lanchonete, mas as coisas sao caras. Fora isso, tem um mercadinho e um restaurante em Flam, mas as coisas sao caras, e o tempo de parada talvez nao seja suficiente pra comer bem. Entao va preparado!

2. Leve roupas quentes! Eu fui na primavera, mesmo assim tinha muita (mas muita) neve nas montanhas, o dia estava aberto, mas passei friozao no barco, no passeio do Fjord. Nos trechos de trem foi ok, so no Fjord mesmo! ;]

Se eu nao te convenci sobre esse passeio, olhem as fotos abaixo! Espero que gostem! =D

1. Oslo até Myrdal (Oslo to Myrdal): 

A paisagem é simplesmente incrível! Como fui na primavera, os rios e lagos já estava todos descongelados, e estava tudo verdinho, bom pelo menos até chegars nas montanhas, lá não, lá você só vê branco, e neve MUITA never!! Achei incrível como tinha tanta neve assim na primavera, fiquei pensando no inverno! ahha brrrrrr

The landscape is simply amazing! Seriously, I was impressed by so much beauty, I couldn't stop looking through the train windows at all. On spring time everything is green and you can see rivers, lakes and waterfalls, until you get to the mountains, there, is just snow, loads of snow! I was amazed!

2. Flam Railway - One of the most beautiful in the World (umas das viagens de trem mais lindas do mundo!)
Quando eu achei que eu já tinha visto muita coisa linda, so de ter ido até Myrdal, veio a descida de Myrdal até Flam, com a Flam Railway. O trem era daqueles antigos, bem temáticos, faz parada numa cachoeira linda, e cada curva, mais cachoeiras, mais montanhas e mais vilazinhas pra se admirar! O trajeto dura cerca de uma hora, e é incrível!!! Sente perto da janela!

The Flam Railway is amazing!! The landscape is breathtaking, and we have one stop in a very beautiful waterfall. You can also see other ones and little villages, when going down, the whole trajetory takes about 1h. It's really nice!

3. Fjords
Em Flam, depois de uma paradinha de cerca de 40 minutos, peguei o barco para fazer o passeio pelo Fjord! Foi incrível! O barco é aberto e tem várias cadeiras e mesas para sentar e ficar confortável (apesar de vc querer ver todos os lados e ficar andando pra lá e pra cá). Além disso, o barco conta com uma área coberta, uma lanchonete e ainda um espaço para deixar malas grandes (caso esse seja teu caso!). O passeio dura 2h, o que é bem longo, faz um pouco de frio, então se agasalhe. Se você esta indo no outono ou inverno, prepare-se bem e prepare-se para congelar! Venta bastante, então eu recomendo cachecol e protetor de ouvido ( quesira eu ter os meus! =P) mesmo na primavera!!!
Pelo Fjord, na primavera, você verá cachoeiras, gaivotas voando ao lado do barco, vilas completamente isoladas, muita água e muita montanha! A paisagem é sensacional!!!!

In Flam, I've taken the boat throughout the Fjords. The boat is open, and there are lots of chairs and tables to sit. There is also a catering service in a cover area and a space to leave your big suitcases as well. Even on spring time, was very very cold, and very wind too, I wish I have my scarf and ears protectors!!! If you are coming on Autumm or Winter be prepared to freeze! On the two hours trajectory, will find mountains frozen, waterfalls, little isolated villages, birds flying along and lots of water and breathtaking landscape! It's the highlight of the trip!

4. The Way to Voss (O caminho até Voss).

Quando eu achei que já tinha visto tudo de lindo, e que poderia dormir um pouco no ônibus, indo the Gudvagen (onde o barco para) até Voss, #soquenao! Era tudo ainda muito lindo! Estrada curvilinea e cheia de cachoeiras e lagos envoltos por montanhas congeladas, então me mantive na janela, com minha câmera na mão e bem atenta! hahaha 

Quando cheguei em Voss, esperamos por quase duas horas pelo trem até Bergen, o que é a parte mais chata da viagem, essa espera toda! Você pode dar uma voltinha pela cidade, eu tava tão cansada que acabei ficando esperando mesmo, e depois dormi praticamente o caminho todo de trem até Bergen, porque agora sim já não tinha muita coisa diferente, e eu já estava mais pra lá do que pra cá depois dessa maratona! haha

After the Fjords, we took a bus in Gudvagen to Voss, I thought that I would be able to sleep and relax, but the landscape and the curve roads were hiding lots of waterfalls and lakes surrounded by frozen mountains, so I keep my camera in hands and myself wide wake! When we arrived in Voss, we had to wait for almost 2h, which is the most boring part. After that you take a train to Bergen, and I've slept pretty much the entire journey, I was dead after this marathon! ahha
